How You Can Help Bring Camphill to Colorado
In the past few years a dedicated group of parents visited Camphill communities, researched what was required, raised the first rounds of funding, established a headquarters, hired staff and are now in the process of acquiring land.

There is no other community like this. Everyone has a unique role in the community. It's extraordinary.
Martin Sheen, Actor

To get to this point there have been many contributions of many kinds. And now there are a number of adult companions, people with developmental disabilities, who are drawn to the Camphill way of life and who have made it clear they want to be among the residents of the first life-sharing homes and that they will contribute their enthusiasm, spirit and work.

The year 2007 is a historic one for Bringing Camphill to Colorado, because this year the organization opens the first two homes. During this exciting time there are many opportunities to become involved in ways that suit every sort of person--those who want to roll up their sleeves to be of practical use applying skills needed by the organization, and those whose strategic advice and generous financial support can establish a firm foundation.

Many Ways of Giving
Your financial contribution to help bring Camphill to Colorado, regardless of the amount, is very important, since every gift moves the effort closer to being the literal place on the map you can visit to see your support at work. It is through networks of friends, families, businesses and professional contacts throughout Colorado, the west, the U.S. and even world-wide that will make it possible to build and maintain homes for adults with developmental disabilities in this beautiful place. Financial donations by check can be made payable to CLCI, a 501(c)3 not-for-profit organization registered in Colorado. The IRS ID number is 84-1583546 and contributions are deductible to the full extent allowed. Contributions can be mailed to P.O. Box 7485 Loveland, CO 80537. Gifts of securities are also welcome and may be given outright or pledged over time. And your financial advisor can assist with planned giving opportunities like wills, bequests, retirement plans, charitable lead trusts, gift annuities and other ways in which your philanthropic goals and financial planning can be coordinated to provide the most benefit to yourself and to others. Please call Sarah Bennett at (970) 663-6696 with any questions about contributions, or to learn how to direct your gift to a particular aspect of the Bringing Camphill to Colorado effort.

Donation of Real Estate and Personal Property
Many Camphill centers around the world have been established when someone, or some family, who loves their property decides it should be preserved in perpetuity as a Camphill community that will serve many generations. Another way Camphill communities have traditionally broken ground has been with several large monetary gifts to fund the acquisition of property. Those who provide this enormous gift will know it will be maintained as a legacy. Individuals may also receive tax benefits for giving gifts of appreciable, tangible personal property as well as land.

Foundation Grants
An important source of support for building and maintaining Camphill in Colorado will come from a variety of foundations. Grant writing for all aspects of building and maintaining the organization and its programs and operations is very important to insure its long-term stability and growth. If you have ideas about foundations, or if you serve or know someone who serves on the Board of Trustees of a foundation or corporation with a charitable giving program whose goals for giving might be met by CLCI, please contact us.

Matching Gifts
Matching gift plans offered by many employers allow you to double or even triple the impact of your gift. Simply ask your personnel department for a matching gift form and return the completed form with your contribution in order to leverage your giving and to make others in your circle aware of Bringing Camphill to Colorado.

Your Gift Can Be Directed
Every gift adds momentum to building Camphill in Colorado and you may choose to direct your gift toward:
(1) The Annual Fund, to support general operations, (2) The Capital Fund, to acquire property and build buildings,
(3) The Scholarship Fund, to help underwrite the annual fee for someone with developmental needs who does not have means of support,
(4) Memorial and Tribute Gifts, to honor the life and memory of a beloved family member, friend, or respected colleague or to celebrate someone you know and their accomplishments and contributions.

Become A Volunteer
We welcome volunteers in all areas of interest and expertise because there are so many things to be done it would be hard to imagine a skill that can't be put to good use. Many are drawn to this effort because they love someone with a developmental disability, but others find there is something about the spirit of the Camphill movement that resonates with them for other reasons. As a volunteer you choose the work that feels best and decide what sort of time commitment to make. Working on a special event for a limited amount of time is as important and necessary a contribution to the organization as regular and ongoing volunteer work. The current wish list includes:
  • Clerical support in the CLCI office, someone who can come in three days a week for three - four hours a day to help with letters, mailings, anwering requests for information and keeping the office running smoothly.
  • CPA to assist the executive director, treasurer and governing board with long-range planning.
  • Legal services from a firm that can provide non-profit law and land acquisition support.
  • Construction support and services by a general contractor who can advise and assist in planning and building several projects.
  • A construction team leader who can coordinate requests for in-kind donations of materials and supplies.
  • An experienced volunteer coordinator to manage and support Bringing Camphill to Colorado volunteers.
  • A volunteer who can develop a specific project to work with other nonprofit organizations in Larimer County.
  • A web master who can improve and expand the web site over time and update the content on a regular basis.
  • A skilled data base manager who can work in the office in Loveland a number of hours every week to maintain and update organizational data.
  • Grant writing volunteers who can work with the Executive Director and the Board to produce a number of grants in support of a variety efforts.

In-Kind Contributions
  • In-focus projector (comparable to Dell 2200MP Projector); color copier, and good quality, nearly new office furniture: desks, chairs, file cabinets, shelves;
  • small, dependable economic car (such as Toyota Carolla or Honda Civic); bedroom and living room furniture; small tractor.
Please call before purchasing or delivering in-kind donations to be sure the item has not already been donated. Thank you very much for your support.

Looking Ahead
Once the first homes are established, the organization will actively seek donations of specific furnishings, appliances, household goods, and items for community gatherings like a piano and chairs. There will also be a need for art supplies and instruction, musical instruments and instruction, and drama supplies for the performances and dress-up occasions that are an important part of community celebrations. The companions who live in the Camphill homes will also determine the sort of craft studios they want to establish, but a bakery and wood shop are likely candidates, which would invite volunteers and the contributions of supplies and equipment for those operations. As the homes are established, all sorts of gardening supplies and equipment and volunteer support will be requested for the planting of herb, flower, and kitchen gardens.
